The Settlement Analyst is responsible for assisting in the development, enhancement, and support of market and transmission settlement functions including revenue collection, distribution, reconciliation, and ongoing analysis. The Settlement Analyst provides support for the Supervisor of Settlements, SPP organization subcommittees, working groups, and any necessary task forces.
Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Settlement & Other Financial Support
• Resolve client questions, disputes, and data errors in the operations of settlement computations. • Respond to customer requests for individual and group settlements training. • Develop presentation materials for settlements training. • Update market or transmission settlement reference documents posted on company website. • Develop and maintain a strong level of understanding (subject matter expertise) of the competitive energy markets, market protocols and SPP tariff. • Assist in the development and implementation of procedures to support the market or transmission settlement process. • Assist with the system development, product implementation, certification and testing criteria. • Identify detailed solutions and improvements to settlement procedures and software to improve accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness. • Assist with business processes development. • Assist as necessary with daily market and transmission settlement activities. • Perform pre-settlement validations of billing determinants from source system interfaces. • Perform post-settlement validations for daily settlement statements and other reports for market participants. • Ensure compliance with all settlement control activities subject to the annual SAS 70 audit including maintenance of all documentation providing evidence of performance of those activities. • Respond to requests from internal and external requests for data and financial analysis. • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal departments and external organizations to answer questions and resolve issues. • Assist Director of Settlements, Supervisor of Settlements, and other SPP staff with financial analysis, reporting requests, and other ad hoc assignments as necessary
Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Finance, IT or similar discipline. Must have proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and Visio. Knowledge of electric utility industry is a definite plus but not required. Strong financial, analytical and problem-solving abilities are necessary. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with settlement analysts, accountants, engineers, management, and senior management. This communication, both written and oral, is for the purposes of requests, analysis, coordination, guidance and presentations. Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus required.
