The Attorney position will be responsible for providing legal support of regulatory matters, including drafting and supporting regulatory filings and otherwise working on administrative law issues.  This position will be responsible for communicating, developing strategy, drafting, and supporting legal reports, filings and other related documents as required. The Attorney may also provide overall corporate legal support including commercial contract review and negotiation, and policy interpretation.     

  • Develop written materials, including legal reports, regulatory filings, and testimony
  • Oversee and track state and federal case dockets
  • Provide analysis and counsel on various legal, policy, strategic and regulatory issues, including coordination with outside counsel
  • Review and negotiate contracts
  • Conduct and coordinate research into a variety of legal issues
  • Prepare legal pleadings, motions, discovery, stipulations, etc.
  • Write, review and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, articles and other documents
  • General corporate legal support
  • Maintain license to practice law in at least one state
  • Adhere to Arkansas Model Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Provide assistance in areas of expertise to other departments and employees, as needed
  • Manage special projects as assigned
  • Understand and comply with SPP Policies and Procedures 


Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
  • Three (3) years of licensed practice, primarily in administrative law


  • Membership in a State Bar as an attorney to be qualified to practice law
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to provide in written form
  • Ability to analyze case law, regulatory decisions and policy guidelines and provide recommendations to the Managing Attorney and General Counsel
  • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively handle all required tasks
  • Ability to analyze case law, regulatory decisions, and policy guidelines to provide recommendations to the Associate General Counsel and General Counsel


  • Knowledge of/experience in the wholesale electric power industry

Physical Demands:

  • Job requires working at a computer for long periods of time

Travel Requirement:

  • This position requires moderate travel (approximately 25%)
