Fall 2017 Quarterly State of the Market Report highlights energy pricing trends, generation by wind resources, a discussion of negative prices and more
The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Marketing Monitoring Unit (MMU) has released its Quarterly State of the Market Report for the fall 2017 period. Highlights for the fall include:
- Energy prices were low, with October prices averaging around $18/MWh.
- Gas prices remained low and even.
- The percentage of generation provided by wind resources continued to climb, while generation provided by coal-powered resources continued to decline.
- Negative prices increased in the SPP market in 2017, which is highlighted in the special issues section of the report.
