Become a Market Participant

The SPP Integrated Marketplace includes unit commitment, which determines the most economic resources to run; provides participants with greater access to resources to meet reserve obligations; improves the ability to balance supply and demand for the entire SPP region; and facilitates the integration of renewable resources. No annual fee is required for SPP Market Participants.

Companies may register as Asset Owning* or Financial Only** Market Participants. If desired, SPP Transmission Customer registration may be included in the Market Participant process.

*Asset Owning Market Participant: An owner with load and/or generation physically or pseudo-tied within the SPP Balancing Authority area.

**Financial Only: An owner of any combination of financial assets (Virtual Energy Offer, Virtual Energy Bid, Bilateral Settlement Schedules) within the SPP Balancing Authority Area.

Market Participant Registration Process

Step 1

  • Please create a Request Management System (RMS) account (if you have not already done so). 
  • Submit an RMS ticket. 
  • Use the Quick Pick option and select “Registration Inquiry” 
  • Check the box “Include Attachment(s) (upload screen will display on submit)”.
  • Click the “Submit” button to finalize your submission.
  • Note: Attachments can be uploaded in increments of no more than three (3) attachments at one time. Additional attachments can be added (in increments of three) by going back to the attachments option in the menu field. 

Step 2

Please submit the completed registration documents before your registration deadline (refer to chart above). The registration documents should be attached to your RMS ticket.

If you are a wind farm and want access to the Energy Meteo Wind Forecast Data, please complete the following agreement:

SPP offers the ability to receive network model data (a raw data file). Each member of your company, who is requesting access, will need to complete either a Competitive or Non-Competitive Confidentiality Agreement and a Competitive or Non-Competitive Confidentiality TCR Addendum.

Step 5

Your Local Security Administrator will need to obtain a digital certificate from Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI).  To begin the process of obtaining an OATI webCARES Digital Certificate, please contact OATI webCARES Support at (763) 201-2020 or support@oati.net for more information about pricing, signing of a webCARES User Agreement, and the Security Officer verification process.
