Southwest Power Pool Board of Directors announces new leadership
The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Board of Directors, a regional power grid operator that ensures access to reliable and affordable electricity, announced Raymond Hepper assumed the role of board chair, effective Aug. 12.
The chair was previously held by John Cupparo who will remain on the board and continue participating with the Strategic Planning Committee, Interim Markets+ Independent Panel and Corporate Governance Committee.
Hepper was elected to the SPP board in 2023 and has more than 30 years of experience in the electric utility industry. He served as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for ISO New England until his retirement in 2018. Previously, he served as partner in the law firm of Pierce Atwood, where he handled regulatory proceedings and complex power contracting issues.
Cupparo has served on the SPP board since 2022 and became chair in February 2024. He is stepping aside from the time commitments demanded of the chair because of personal reasons. He previously served as a senior executive at Berkshire Hathaway Energy, where he led a significant transmission investment program.
SPP plans to announce a new vice chair later this quarter.
