SPP names Carrie Simpson new Vice President of Markets

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. – Southwest Power Pool (SPP) has chosen Carrie Simpson to serve as Vice President of Markets, effective April 1. Simpson currently serves as SPP’s Senior Director of Seams and Western Services. She will fill the role vacated by Antoine Lucas, recently named SPP’s new chief operating officer (COO).

“Carrie is a strong leader and has made a significant impact to SPP’s markets in her role as senior director,” said Antoine Lucas, COO-elect. “I’m excited to see her bring her extensive experience to the new role of Vice President of Markets to help SPP meet the challenges and opportunities on the horizon.”

In her new position, Simpson will be responsible for overseeing the development, design and delivery of all SPP market-based services. She will collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the ongoing efficiency and reliability of the current electricity markets managed under the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff, while also working on the development of additional value-added services. As Vice President of Markets, Simpson will also serve as the executive sponsor of SPP’s Markets+ effort, a regional day-ahead wholesale electricity market in the Western Interconnection.

“I’m honored and excited to step into this role, said Simpson. “This is an important time in our industry. I look forward to continuing to work closely with our members and other stakeholders to develop and implement solutions that responsibly and economically keep the lights on and support the needs of the regional power grid.”

In her current role as Senior Director of Seams and Western Services, Simpson directed the ongoing development and implementation of wholesale electricity markets and other electricity services in partnership with SPP’s stakeholders.

Simpson has more than 20 years of experience in the electric utility industry, working in operations, power marketing, regulatory and market design. Before serving in her current role, Simpson was the western markets director at Xcel-Colorado and earlier spent six years at SPP, working closely with members and stakeholders to develop and implement energy and ancillary services markets. Simpson holds an undergraduate degree from Harvard, a J.D. from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law, and is licensed to practice law in Colorado.
